It seems like the mother was more worried about her relationship with Phil over her two boys (David & Jamie). She would threaten or bribe them to listen and be good wail Phil was around. She would tell them if there not good, then she'll take the TV away. Or if they were good, then she'll buy them new play station games. She would say, "If you mess up this relationship for me, I don't know what I'll do". This characteristic is very selfish on the mothers' behalf.

David most liklt didn't care for Phil so much because it is very hard to warm up to another "father-figure", when your real father has passed away. David's mother did not make the situation any easer either, because she showed that she put her relationship first.
The mother assumed a lot about Phil. She thought he was going to take care of her alive, or dead. Well, he did not leave her any money, no insurance if anything happened to him. He also had taken out the mortgage on the house because he gambled a lot and lost a lot. It turns out that there was almost nothing in the bank. So, once again they are broke. The mother was trying to avoid this situation by being the "perfect wife", but it turns out that being the "perfect wife" isn't everything!
If I were her I would feel terrible, because she knew she was rough on her boys. You never put someone in front of you own blood, much less a man (or relationship) in front of your own children.

The post is really good but in the first two paragraphs you have a total of two spelling errors and you didn't end your response with a question.
Sounds like Mommy Dearest should spend more time worrying about her kids.
